“Thus says the LORD, the King of Israel and his Redeemer, the LORD of hosts:
‘I am the first and I am the last,
And there is no God besides Me.'”
~Isaiah 44:6b NASB
So…what, or who…is in my “god” seat? What is it that is adored most, thought about most, hoped for most, in my life?
Where do I run to…what is my “rock” when there is nowhere else to run to and nothing else to hold on to?
“…Is there any God besides Me,
or is there any other Rock?
I know of none.”
Isaiah 44:8b NASB
Lord, let my answer always be this…
There is no other God besides You!
There is NO other Rock.
I know of none other than You.”
Isaiah 44:9-11a NIV
“All who make idols are nothing, and the things they treasure are worthless…”
What am I treasuring? “Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.” Matthew 6:21 NLT
Where is the desire of my heart?
“YOUR NAME, even Your memory, is the desire of our souls. At night my soul longs for You, indeed, my spirit within me seeks You diligently…”
Isaiah 26:8b-9 NASB
Is the Name of the Lord…the memory of His faithfulness in my life…the hope of seeing His face…
is it the desire of my soul?
the treasure of my life?
Do I long for the Presence of Jesus more than I long for anything else?
Is my spirit within me seeking Him diligently? In other words…am I pursuing Him persistently? Am I persevering, or have I sat down on the sidelines? Am I attentive to His voice and His presence?
Or has my spirit started seeking someone or something else?
Because our enemy, the deceiver, doesn’t want us seeking Him diligently. He wants to get us off track.
Isaiah 44:20b NASB says…“…a deceived heart has turned him aside.”
Is the desire of my heart for the One who shaped it with His hands…the One who says here in verse 21…
“I have formed you…”
“…you will not be forgotten by Me.”
(Do you feel forgotten? The One who formed you has NOT forgotten you!!)
Is the desire of my heart for the One who says in verse 22…
“I have swept away your sins like a cloud…”
“I have scattered your offenses like the morning mist…”
Has your heart been deceived? Have you turned to the side? The One who formed you says in verse 22…
“Return to Me, for I have redeemed you.”
Father, so easily we can be deceived and turned aside. So easily we desire things and worship things less than You. Yet these things are rubbish, filth, nothing in comparison to You, the One who formed us and the One who doesn’t forget us. The One who swept away (ALL) of our sins like a cloud and scattered (ALL) of our offenses like the morning mist.
Forgive us, Father. We return to You, the One who waits patiently for us.
In our Redeemer Jesus’ holy Name, Amen.
“Let the Word of Christ richly dwell within you…”
