Trying to See Jesus

Good morning!!

sycamore tree

“He (Jesus) entered Jericho and was passing through.  And there was a man called by the name of Zaccheus; he was a chief tax collector and he was rich.  Zaccheus was trying to see who Jesus was…”  Luke 19:1-3a

I don’t have a whole lot to write…just this thought today…

Am I trying to see who Jesus is?  Even as a believer…am I daily looking for Him, trying to better see Him, know Him?

Here’s how desperate Zaccheus was to see who Jesus was…we’d do well to take notes…

“Zaccheus was trying to see who Jesus was, and was unable because of the crowd, for he was small in stature.  So he ran on ahead and climbed up into a sycamore tree in order to see Him, for He was about to pass through that way.”   Luke 19:3-4

The crowd was in the way…he couldn’t see because of his height…but that wasn’t stopping him.  He had a perfect excuse, but his determination to see Jesus left no room for excuses.

{What is my excuse?}

Too tired.

Too busy.

I’ll get to know Him later…

Is my desperation…my determination…to know Jesus…greater than my excuse?

We all have good excuses…Zaccheus did…but he knew that

So he ran…RAN…a grown man ran…and climbed a tree.

Not concerned with what the crowd thought, just desperate to see Jesus.

And so today, is my desperation, my determination, to know Jesus better…to see Jesus better…greater than my excuse?  Because when we throw our excuses out the window and start doing whatever we can to see Him better, here’s what happens…

“When Jesus came to the place, He looked up and said to him, “Zaccheus, hurry and come down, for today I must stay at your house.”  Luke 19:5

When we seek Him, He lets us find Him.

“You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.

Jeremiah 29:13

“And he (Zaccheus) hurried and came down and received Him gladly.”  Luke 19:6

So run.  Climb a tree.  Stop using excuses and look for Jesus.  Seek Him desperately…wholeheartedly.  He WILL be found.

Father, You are beautiful and holy and relational!  You love it when we seek You wholeheartedly…Father, today let us find You!!  Jesus, let us know You better!!  Give us hearts that are desperate for You.  Give us hearts that are determined not to let anything stand in the way of knowing You.  Give us creative minds to find new ways to seek You!!  You are all we need.  Thank You for letting us find You when we wholeheartedly search for You.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

“Let the Word of Christ richly dwell within you…”

Colossians 3:16a
