As adopted, chosen, holy children of the King, we must be noticeably different from the “world”. We are to be lighthouses, showing the lost the way to the Light.
“Holy”, which we are, (Colossians 3:12, 1 Peter 2:9), because we are adopted children of God (Ephesians 1:5), means “set apart”. Different. Why are we different? Because of God’s Presence alive in us!!! Not because of anything we have done. I love the conversation between Moses and God in Exodus 33:16. This sums it up.
“For how then can it be known that I have found favor in Your sight, I and Your people? Is it not by Your going with us, so that we, I and Your people, may be distinguished from all the other people who are upon the face of the earth?”
I want to be distinguished by God’s Presence!! I love this!! Listen to how God responds to Moses’ plea…
The LORD said to Moses, “I will also do this thing of which you have spoken; for you have found favor in My sight and I have known you by name.”
Oh, to hear the voice of God speak those words out loud to me on this earth!! “You have found favor in My sight and I HAVE KNOWN YOU BY NAME!!!” One day we will hear Him say those words to us when we see Him face to face!!
Revelation 2:17 says “…I will give him a white stone, and a new name written on the stone which no one knows but he who receives it.” He not only knows us and calls us by name, but He also has a special name for us that only He knows. I can’t wait until He reveals it!!
Then Moses makes the bold request and asks to see God’s glory! I love Moses!! Why do we not get so bold?!!
Then Moses said, “I pray You, show me Your glory!”
God allows Moses to see His back, he grants Moses the request (33:20-23). INCREDIBLE!! He does not allow Moses to see His face, because “no man can see Me and live.” (33:20)
The coolest thing happens in Exodus 34. This is where Moses is “distinguished from all the other people.” After he has this amazing time with God on Mount Sinai, he comes down from the mountain and “the skin of his face shone because of his speaking with Him.”
LORD, let our faces shine with Your Light to the dark world around us. In the words of Moses, “I pray You, show me Your glory!!!” Let us be visibly distinguished from the people around us, so that they crave what we have, which is Your Presence.
