He (Joseph) named the second (son) Ephraim, “For, he said, “God has made me fruitful in the land of my affliction.”
1. a state of pain, distress, or grief; misery
2. a cause of mental or bodily pain, as sickness, loss, calamity, or persecution.
What a wonderful lesson we can learn from Joseph! When we are in our own “land of affliction”, whatever that may be, let us remember that God can and will make us fruitful! (John 15:8 “My Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit, and so prove to be My disciples.”) Don’t think for a minute that He won’t use a season of affliction for His glory (Romans 8:28). We can bloom in the middle of our own desert when we are planted in God’s faithfulness. And He is faithful!!
“Know therefore that the LORD your God, He is God, the faithful God, who keeps His covenant and His lovingkindness to a thousandth generation with those who love Him and keep His commandments;”
