Getting Up Close and Personal

Good Morning!!

So, this morning, I’m wondering…

when we pray, are we getting ~Up Close and Personal~ with God?

Are we intimate with the One we are approaching?

Here’s the verse I looked at…the conversation {or prayer} that Jesus had with His Father in the Garden of Gethsemane.  In the verse we’re going to look at…Mark 14:36

…His soul was deeply grieved…to the point of death.  (So what does He do?  He falls to the ground to pray.)

{Food for thought…when we’re deeply grieved, when we’re stressed, distressed, troubled…who do we go to?  A friend?  A family member?  Someone we’re intimate with, right?}

Jesus shows us the best place to go…face down before our Father in heaven.  But we have to be intimate with Him before we long to go to Him.  Intimacy takes time…spending time getting to know someone.  Knowing their character.  Knowing their heart.  {Am I spending time getting to know God’s heart and character?}  Only when I know His heart and character will I want to run to Him and Him alone…to run to Him first.

“And He was saying, “Abba!  Father!  All things are possible for You…”

For now, let’s stop here.  Jesus approaches God by recognizing Who God is.  Because He KNOWS and is INTIMATE with Him.

He recognizes that God is His Father…His Father who can do ALL THINGS.

And this is how He approaches God in prayer in His time of great distress.  The first thing He does is recognize Who God is.

His Abba Father.

The One Who can do all things.

It puts things into perspective, doesn’t it?  A reminder of Who we are approaching.  Who we are face~down in front of.  Not a genie~in~a~bottle…but our Father in heaven Who can do all things.  ALL THINGS.

{So how do I approach the Throne?  Do I recognize Whose Presence I am coming into before I lay my deepest troubles of the soul before His throne?  Jesus did.}

Father~ loving, compassionate, caring, protective, knowing

He is the One Who can do anything.  All things.

Loving and Compassionate and Powerful.

We only get to KNOW these things about Him deep down by spending time face down…ALONE…in His Presence.

{Am I doing that?}

There’s more to look at in this verse, but for today, I just want to sit on this part…let’s get Up Close and Personal with God today.  Let’s find out a little more about Who He is.  Draw closer to His heart today.  That’s His deep desire, for us to know Him better!

“And this is eternal life, that they know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.”

~John 17:3~

Let’s also remember to…like Jesus did…enter into His Presence by acknowledging Who He is.  He is worthy of our praise!!

And we need to put it into perspective…Who we are approaching.  Then everything else can be put into perspective.

Abba Father!  You are full of grace and compassion.  You, Father, are slow to anger and abounding in lovingkindness.  You are faithful, You hear us, see us and know us…You are intimate with all of our ways.  Help us to become more intimate with You!  Give us a desire to know Your heart and to know Your character.  When we encounter trials AND joys, let us desire to run to You first like Jesus did!  Fill us with Your Presence and guide our path today.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.

“Let the Word of Christ richly dwell within you…”

Colossians 3:16a
