Equipped to Endure

Good morning!!

sunrise

Ok, so let’s face it.  Today, we will face temptations.  Whether it’s the temptation to binge on unhealthy food, or the temptation to gossip, or the temptation to harbor bitterness and resentment in our hearts…the list goes on and on…but one thing is sure, temptations will come.

What if we went into today (1.) expecting temptations to come, and (2.) equipped to turn to Jesus in obedience instead of saying yes to the temptation and giving in to sin? (Get equipped here…Ephesians 6:10-17)

We will have a chance today to say yes or no, to give in or stand firm.

James 1:2 says “Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.”

Reading this verse, I see that endurance is part of the sanctification process…part of the perfecting and completing process…part of the

~making me more like Jesus process.~

That’s what I want…at the end of today, I want to look more like Jesus.

So when that temptation to sin comes, I will “…clothe (myself) with the Lord Jesus Christ, and will not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh.” (From Romans 13:14)

I will think about how endurance will make me more like Him and less like the world.

“So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves.”

~Galatians 5:16

  • Can we choose to look at temptations as opportunities to endure and obey today?
  • Can we, as Christ followers, yield ourselves today to the guidance of the Holy Spirit, so we won’t do what our sinful nature craves?

Father, thank You for being my Helper.  Thank You for being my Strength.  Thank You for warning us that trials and temptations will indeed come, and for equipping us with Your Spirit so we can say NO to temptations to sin and YES to looking more like Your Son, Jesus.  Help us today!!  In Jesus Name, Amen.

Blessings!

“Let the Word of Christ richly dwell within you…”

Colossians 3:16a
