Listen up, Self!
Today, there will be two voices to listen to. There will be the quiet Voice of Truth whispering to my soul…and there will be the screaming lies of the Master Deceiver. The Deceiver is crafty and will know just what to say to get me down…to get me to focus on myself instead of Jesus.
But Truth will be there, quietly whispering in my soul.
Which voice will I choose to listen to?
Which path will I choose to walk down today? The path of Truth…the one that the still, small Voice will lead me down?
Or the path of Destruction…the path that the Deceiver is trying to get me on?
“But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent’s cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ.” (2 Corinthians 11:3)
It’s just one step when I get to the crossroads…a step onto that wide path, or a dare to step onto the “road less traveled by”. A dare to believe the TRUTH about what God says about me instead of the CUNNING and CRAFTY lies of the Deceiver.
And he is crafty. He makes it sound true. Just a little twist of the Truth…just a “Did God realllly say…” …then just a bite of the apple…
“Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?” (Genesis 3:1)
Here are some lies you can be sure to look out for…the snares to avoid in your path today…and then there’s the Truth.
You’re just not good enough.
“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” (Ephesians 2:10 NLT)
No one cares about you!!
“The LORD appeared to us in the past, saying: “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.” (Jeremiah 31:3)
All you do is mess up! You’re a failure.
“The Lord makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him; though he may stumble, he will not fall, for the Lord upholds him with his hand.” (Psalm 37:23-24)
“Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes.” (Ephesians 1:4)
“He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins.” (Ephesians 1:7)
Why don’t you just quit? You’re wasting your time. No one appreciates what you do.
As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. (1 Peter 4:10)
Let us not become weary in doing good the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. (Galatians 6:9)
He/She doesn’t deserve your forgiveness. You have every right to hold a grudge.
“Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” (Ephesians 4:31-32)
(I could go on…but that’s a start!!)
So, Self, here’s the plan!! Today I will “Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes…” (Ephesians 6:11) …because that devil, he’s a crafty schemer…that we cannot deny…he crafts schemes that are tailor made for each of us…and for that we must be prepared.
- What lie are you believing today?
- Have you stopped to hear what the Voice of Truth has to say…have you searched His Word for the Truth to combat the lie?
- Today will you STOP with me at the crossroads of Truth and Deception and choose the Path of Truth?
Today I will choose to walk down the Path of Truth. When that moment comes, when I am at the crossroads, I will stop.
I will listen for the quiet Voice of Truth to keep me on the Narrow Path.
I will BELIEVE the Voice of Truth, even when it seems easier to believe the lie.
“But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth.” (John 16:13)
And, like Frost, I will be able to say…
“Two roads diverged in a wood, and I —
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.”
Father, You are Truth. You guide us with Your very Spirit! You never leave us to walk this road alone…You guide us into all Truth. Thank You! Forgive me for believing lies and choosing not to listen to Your voice. Help me to hear You above all of the noise and the lies. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
“Let the Word of Christ richly dwell within you…”
