Are you packed and ready to go?
“Go where?”…you might ask.
What if the answer was…”to the place I will show you?”
Are you ready to go?
“Now the LORD said to Abram, ‘Go forth from your country, and from your relatives and from your father’s house, to the land which I will show you…” (Genesis12:1)
“So Abram went forth as the LORD had spoken to him. Now Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from Haran.” (Genesis 12:4)
- How would I have responded?!!
- Would I have heard God speak…am I positioned to hear Him by spending time turning the pages of His Word and spending time in prayer with Him?
If the verse read…”Now the LORD said to ___________(insert your name)….’Go forth from your comfort zone…tell Me your answer is “YES” and then I will tell you the plan. All you need to know is that I KNOW. Tell Me you trust Me and then I will begin to make the details clear.'”
What would my initial response be?
If I doubt His ways and haven’t spent time getting to know Him…to know His character and WHO He is…if I want what I want and not what He wants…if I don’t really trust Him, my answer might be one of these…
- Go where?
- Well, I’ll say yes if You tell me where You are taking me…
- Not right now…after I finish ____________ I will go.
- I’ll say yes, but not if You ask me to ___________!
Or maybe I don’t try to listen for Him because I believe this lie…
- God wouldn’t use me, anyway. He wouldn’t speak to me. He only uses “good” people. (We’ll dig more into that one in a day or 2…)
Hebrews 11:8-10 says,
“By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going. By faith he made his home in the promised land like a stranger in a foreign country; he lived in tents, as did Isaac and Jacob, who were heirs with him of the same promise. For he was looking forward to the city with foundations, whose architect and builder is God.”
This verse teaches me a few very important things.
God had an inheritance waiting for Abraham, but Abraham would not have received the inheritance if he hadn’t stepped out and followed God in faith.
I wonder how many of God’s blessings we have missed because we were too afraid to step out in faith and say YES, Lord, I will go!!
Abraham said “Yes” to God without knowing where God was taking him.
When we have a right view of God, we can say a wholehearted YES…even when we can’t see around the bend in the road. We can say a wholehearted YES when we trust that He won’t lead us to a place where He won’t be with us.
“The LORD Himself goes before you and will be with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” (Deuteronomy 31:8)
Check this one out…Abraham lived as an alien in the land of promise, as in a foreign land.
Once Abraham got to the Promised Land-to the place where God led him-he lived as an ALIEN.
He didn’t get there and say…“THIS IS WHERE I FIT IN!!!”
After following God and trusting Him…after getting a taste of His faithfulness…Abram knew that this land…this Promised Land on earth…was NOTHING compared to the eternal Promised Land that he had begun to look forward to. “…for he was looking for the city which has foundations, whose architect and builder is God.”
Just because we are not “comfortable” or “fitting in,” doesn’t mean we’re not where God wants us!!! We are reminded in 1 Peter 2:11 that we are “aliens and strangers” on this earth. “Beloved, I urge you as aliens and strangers to abstain from fleshly lusts which wage war against the soul.”
2 Corinthians 5:1-2 says, “For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands. Meanwhile we groan, longing to be clothed instead with our heavenly dwelling…”
2 Corinthians 4:18 says, “So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.”
If I am living with an “eternal perspective,” as Abraham did, I can “put my YES on the table” with no fear of what lies behind the “Yes.”
If the Great I AM is behind our “Yes”, we can be sure that we are in the capable arms of Love Himself!!
I am living for my eternal inheritance…which is God Himself!!!
I am not so concerned about where He is taking me as I am with Who is taking me and Who will go with me!!
I am not so concerned with God taking me to a place where I am comfortable as I am with Him just taking me wherever He wants me to go.
- Is my answer…right now…”YES, LORD?”
Father, You are the Great I AM. How can I have said “No” or “Why” or “Where” to YOU?? You are holy, holy, holy, and ALL Your ways are good.
Yes, LORD, yes, LORD, yes. With hearts bowed before You we will press into You and wherever You lead. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
Blessings…don’t miss another moment of joy in His Presence!!! Step out and say “Yes…I will trust You, Lord!!”
“Let the Word of Christ richly dwell within you…”
