Today, I’m not going to try and “do better.”
Today, I’m simply going to set my heart on pleasing the Lord in all that I do. “…so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God…” (Colossians 1:10)
Today, I’m not going to beat myself up or feel like a failure when I mess up. I won’t give up and say “I blew it again.” I will take courage, because Jesus has overcome the world. (John 16:33)
Jesus has overcome the world.
Today, when I mess up, I’m going to thank Jesus that His grace is sufficient. I will thank Him that He doesn’t keep a record of wrongs. “If you, LORD, kept a record of sins, Lord, who could stand?” (Psalm 130:3) And I will choose not to keep a record of anyone else’s “wrongs,” because love “keeps no record of wrongs.” (1 Corinthians 13:5) I will thank Him that I don’t have to earn His love…but that while I was still a sinner, Christ died for me. “But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8)
“If you, LORD, kept a record of sins, Lord, who could stand?”
I will choose not to wallow in my mistakes, past or present, but I will choose to wallow in His grace that is sufficient for ALL of my sins. Because “He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.” Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me.” (2 Corinthians 12:9)
If He shows His power through weakness, then I’m His girl! I’ve got plenty of weakness for Him to work with!! I’ll take His power dwelling in me over trying to defeat my weaknesses on my own. I am happy to turn to Him for strength rather than pretend like my strength is enough…because it’s not.
“My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.”
I will set my heart on seeking His face with all of my heart. Because His Word says that “The LORD looks down from heaven on all mankind to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God.” (Psalm 14:2) He promises me that “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” (Jeremiah 29:13)
When You said, “Seek My face,” my heart said to You, “Your face, O LORD, I shall seek.” Psalm 27:8
(I also love the New Living Translation version of Psalm 27:8…it says “My heart has heard you say, “Come and talk with me.” And my heart responds, “LORD, I am coming.” Does your heart hear Him calling? Is your heart responding? Will you come and talk with Him??!!)
I will give up expecting myself to be “perfect”…I understand that the perfecting is an ongoing process that won’t be finished until I see the face of my Savior. “But I WILL press on so that I may lay hold of that for which also I was laid hold of by Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 3:12)
I WILL SAVOR THESE WORDS ALL DAY…
I was laid hold of by Christ Jesus. He has embraced me. He has made me His own.
“Brothers and sisters, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 3:13-14)
I know that I can’t walk forward with 2 feet today if I have one foot stuck in yesterday!
I will press on today, saturated in grace, toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
I will press on, two feet walking in grace.
Jesus, today I will choose to follow You…both feet moving forward, leaving yesterday and the past behind. Jesus…my heart has heard You say “come and talk with me!” My heart and the rest of me responded (even when I was tired and didn’t feel like getting out of bed)…thank You for meeting with me in the stillness and quiet!! Thank You that when I get up from this time of quiet, that You will go with Me. I will follow You. Thank You for Your grace that draws me deeper into Your love. Thank You for not keeping a record of my wrongs, and help me to do the same for others. In Your precious name, Amen!
“Let the Word of Christ richly dwell within you…”
